Purdue University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Residence Education Coordinator in the department of Residential Life.

Founded in 1869 in West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is one of the nations’ premier institutions with more than 200 areas of undergraduate student and renowned research initiatives. Purdue’s undergraduate and graduate programs rank among the best in the country. Twenty-two of America’s astronauts hold Purdue degrees. Academically, Purdue’s role as a major research institution is supported by top-ranking disciplines in pharmacy, business, engineering and agriculture. More than 39,000 students are enrolled here and represent all 50 states and 130 countries. Add about 1000 student organizations and Big Ten Boilermaker athletics, and you get a college atmosphere that is without rival. Purdue University is committed to maintaining a community which recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; fosters tolerance, sensitivity, understanding, and mutual respect among its members; and encourages each individual to strive to reach his or her own potential. In pursuit of its goal of academic excellence, the University seeks to develop and nurture diversity. The University believes that diversity among its many members strengthens the institution, stimulates creativity, promotes the exchange of ideas, and enriches campus life.

Purdue has recently restructured into two major administrative units reporting to the Provost—Undergraduate Academic Affairs and Student Life. Student Life is focused on the personal, professional and intellectual growth of Purdue students. We in Residential Life view our communities as "living learning laboratories" and as such are seeking Residence Education Coordinators - educators who are committed to teaching and embody the concept of being a "life-long learner”.

Residence Education Coordinators (RECs) are responsible for developing strong residential communities; forming relationships with individual students; coaching and supervising student staff; implementing area-specific residential curriculum plans, facilitating educational opportunities including student conduct meetings and student leadership experiences, communicating with parents and other stakeholders, and organizing opening and closing processes. Residence Education Coordinators create and promote a learning centered, nurturing residential community, and must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
