The Ohio State University Alumni Association is seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Alumni Experiences to focus on innovative and transformative ways to engage its 550,000 alumni. Ohio State enjoys the support of the best fans in the land, many of whom are alumni. Our goal is to ensure all alumni find ways to connect their passions to the myriad opportunities at their university. There is unlimited potential in harnessing the enormous intellect, heart and experience of our alumni. Doing just that – creatively and on a large, sustainable scale will be the mission of this AVP.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of the Alumni Association, the AVP will direct a team of three who oversee a large alumni experience operation with the opportunity for significant growth. The AVP will be a charismatic leader who has worked in complex organizations with long-term success in influencing growth, sustaining continuous improvement on a large scale and applying big data to inform strategic business decisions.

Defining an early pathway for growth will be the initial priority for the AVP. The first year in the role will entail building relationships and understanding the current operation and resources, developing and socializing a growth plan, and defining metrics. Success in three years will mean the Alumni Association is recognized outside Columbus in a remarkable way. In five years, the successful AVP will have earned the confidence of the Board of Directors and senior leadership of Advancement as part of a long-term succession plan for the President and CEO of the Alumni Association, a position fittingly filled only by alumni.

Short-term goals include increasing the digital experience for alumni and creating a culture of vision-oriented innovation. Long-term goals include influencing new ways to reach alumni who are barely or not engaged at all.

A passionate Ohio State alumnus is strongly preferred for this position. Ability to see opportunities for awareness and influence through a marketing lens also preferred. Must bring a business edge and data perspective with experience in building a successful team operation in a highly matrixed, fluid organization. Public-facing, media relations experience a big plus.
