Our Finance team ensure we are accountable and on track to company strategies. Their responsibilities include forecasting, in-season management, and analysis across business units. From sales and margin to operations and expenses, our Finance team provides consistent, accurate information to cross-functional partners to support PetSmart's growth initiatives.
About the Location
Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.

About the Job Join PetSmart’s highly motivated and collaborative Financial Reporting team, where every day is ‘Bring Your Pet to Work’ Day! In this role, you will help lead the implementation of financial reporting and technical accounting policies, while ensuring compliance to external reporting requirements. You will be exposed to the many facets of accounting and finance operations for the largest omni-channel pet retailer in North America, with excellent opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and continuous career development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Coordinate external audits and the preparation of quarterly and annual external financial reports for PetSmart and select subsidiaries;
- Work directly with third-party providers in the preparation of 401(k) benefit plan financial statements and supplemental schedules;
- Validate key components of company valuations prepared by third-party specialists;
- Analyze the financial performance of peers in the pet specialty market and overall retail industry;
- Research new accounting literature and its potential impact on the company, including documenting specific technical accounting issues as they arise;
- Manage PetSmart’s accounting policy manual and ensure compliance with select company policies;
- Analyze PetSmart’s debt compliance through the preparation of the quarterly adjusted EBITDA calculation;
- Facilitate quarterly and annual earnings support utilized by management for PetSmart’s earnings calls;
- Lead PetSmart’s response to various governmental reporting surveys;
- Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, or improve efficiencies within department processes; and
- Perform ad-hoc reporting, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting
- At least one year in Public Accounting, Big4 preferred, or one year in corporate accounting or financial reporting
- Understanding of US GAAP
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
- CPA (or defined plan for achieving certification), preferred
