College/Department Information
Mentorship and Student Engagement (MSE) was established in 2018 and aims to provide education, training, and programming to foster belonging and success in the Augusta University community. Our office collaborates with departments, colleges, and student organizations to promote our Augusta University values. We advance student success and belonging through high-impact practices, targeted student success initiatives, and co-curricular engagement opportunities to build cultural competency.
Job Summary
This grant-funded position is responsible for the development and implementation of holistic Student Support Services (SSS) that are outcome-driven and primarily focused on retention, degree completion, and/or workforce readiness. The SSS Coordinator provides holistic, individualized support for first-generation, income-eligible students, and students with disabilities at Augusta University. This position works within the Mentorship and Student Engagement Office and in close partnership with the Academic Success Center to advance student persistence, progression, and degree completion.
Responsibilities
INDIVIDUALIZED STUDENT SUPPORT: Provide support for an assigned caseload of SSS participants in academic advising, student success development, career planning, financial literacy, financial aid/scholarship assistance, and graduate school advising. Implement proactive outreach and intrusive advising methods in all student interactions. Assess students' educational needs and develop/monitor individualized student success plans that include strengths, needs, and holistic success plans. Monitor student grades and progress toward graduation, meeting with participants regularly and making necessary referrals. Monitor student participation in SSS-specific student programming.
PROGRAM RECORDKEEPING: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including contact logs, case notes, and files for reporting and compliance purposes. Regularly update student and program records in the program database. Ensure that all guidelines regarding student eligibility are met. Track and monitor participant academic progress, retention, and degree completion outcomes.
PROGRAM COMPLIANCE: Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to federal regulations, established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner with minimal supervision. Assure compliance with all regulations in EDGAR, GPRA, GEPA, FLSA, and FERPA.
UNIVERSITY RELATIONSHIPS: Advocate and make recommendations for campus-wide retention initiatives. Partner with academic advisors, faculty, staff, students, and administrative personnel to track analytics and help identify risk indicators to support data-informed retention and transfer strategies.
PARTICIPANT RECRUITMENT: Support student recruitment efforts, reviewing applications and determining participant eligibility in accordance with federal guidelines. Ensure all guidelines regarding student eligibility are met
SPECIAL PROJECTS: Participate in professional development and perform all duties required for the successful implementation and operation of the project. Contribute to special projects that strengthen the SSS program and academic success efforts across the Mentorship and Student Engagement Office.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, student affairs, counseling, social work or related field. Experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated experience in supporting institutional efforts for student success and access. Professional or student experience with SSS programs or similar projects.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Understanding of student belonging and how to communicate and action AU values. Basic knowledge of financial aid terminology and processes. Demonstrated knowledge of student development, educational advising, college transition, learning styles strategies, and the impact of culture on learning. Working knowledge of student management database systems, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
SKILLS Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Exhibits a professional code of ethics. Exceptional interpersonal counseling, communication, organization, and facilitation skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency with the ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, and internet-based software/applications.
ABILITIES Ability to maintain confidentiality. Commitment to the development of a student-centered residential campus environment. Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries relating to holistic student success and financial need. Demonstrated ability to use and apply documentation instruments and technology to track students. Ability to effectively manage a caseload of students. Ability to establish rapport with college students from various backgrounds. Ability to work effectively on a team and independently in a high-volume work setting. Demonstrated experience working successfully with a team.

Salary: $45,400/annually-$50,000/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
