Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology
Position Description:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the College of Charleston invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning August 16, 2026. We seek a broadly trained sociologist who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester (typically two course preps), ranging from introductory to upper-level sociology courses. The area of specialization is open. We seek candidates with an active, current research agenda. We value candidates who can contribute to one or more of the following areas in the major: methods and statistics, criminology, child welfare and/or social psychology.

A Ph.D. in Sociology is required by the time of appointment. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and especially value the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate students with differing experiences, needs, and perspectives.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology consists of 16 faculty (6 anthropologists and 10 sociologists) and has approximately 250 undergraduate majors (SOCY 175, ANTH 75). Applicants may learn more about the department at http://sociology.cofc.edu/.
