Senior Db2 for z/OS Systems Programmer

The Senior Db2 for z/OS Systems Programmer is responsible for performance, availability, and lifecycle management of Db2 for z/OS subsystems supporting high-volume, mission-critical Medicaid and healthcare systems. They operate in a large-scale data sharing environment with heavy distributed (DDF) workloads, strict audit controls, and 24x7x365 availability requirementsMEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACTAs a Senior Db2 for z/OS Systems Programmer, the work youll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of our customers. You willwill play a crucial role via the following:Db2 Performance & MonitoringAnalyze DDF activity, connection pooling, and thread usageTune buffer pools, EDM pool, and memory usageResolve locking, latching, and concurrency issuesIdentify performance degradation and implement solutionsProvide proactive performance recommendationsPerformance Reporting (SAS / Excel)Develop daily/weekly/monthly reports using SMF/RMF dataAnalyze CPU utilization, transaction volumes, and workload trendsHighlight anomalies and emerging risksTranslate technical metrics into user-friendly reports for leadershipInstallation, Maintenance & UpgradesInstall and configure Db2 subsystems and toolsApply RSUs, PTFs, and HIPER maintenanceExecute Db2 version upgrades aligned with IPL windowsPerform validation and ensure system stability post-upgradeDisaster Recovery & Audit SupportParticipate in DR exercises ensuring full system recoveryValidate image copies and backup integrityEnsure recoverability of all critical tablespacesSupport audit requirements and documentationProblem DeterminationLead root cause analysis for system and performance issuesInvestigate DDF spikes, CPU anomalies, and contention issuesCollaborate with application, storage, and z/OS teamsInterface with IBM support when neededChange ManagementCreate and manage ServiceNow change recordsEnsure proper approvals and schedulingCommunicate changes to stakeholdersMaintain compliance with production standardsDay in the Life / Weekly CycleDaily monitoring of Db2 subsystem health and performance metricsReview and distribute performance reports to stakeholdersInvestigate anomalies such as DDF spikes or CPU increasesCoordinate with application teams on performance issuesPrepare and implement maintenance or changesParticipate in meetings related to DR, upgrades, or production issuesWHAT YOULL NEED TO SUCCEEDBring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The Senior Db2 for z/OS Systems Programmer, must have: Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field Experience: 10+ years of related experience Required Technical Skills:Strong expertise in data sharing and DDF environmentsExperience with SMF/RMF analysis and performance tuningProficiency with SAS and Excel for reportingDeep knowledge of Db2 internals and architectureExperience with OmegamonWorking knowledge of the following: ZOS MVS SMPE TSO ISPF SDSF IFCID SQL EXPLAIN Cobol Db2 Connect Bind Catalog Db2 Utilities Required Skills:Ability to provide on-call support 24x7 due to potential outage penaltiesCapability for off-hours work for maintenance and upgrades Location: RemoteGDIT IS YOUR PLACEAt GDIT, the mission is our purpose, and our people are at the center of everything we do.
