Open Rank Organ Procurement Surgeon, Clinical Faculty
The Department of Surgery at UVA Health invites applications for an open rank full-time clinical faculty position in the Division of Transplant Surgery. The successful candidate will join a highly productive, collaborative, and expanding abdominal transplant program dedicated to the surgical management of patients requiring complex multi-organ transplantation. This faculty position is focused primarily on abdominal organ procurement and organ preservation. The role is central to maintaining excellence in donor organ quality, innovation in procurement techniques, and multidisciplinary collaboration across transplant systems. Clinical responsibilities will include the procurement and preservation of abdominal organs, including kidney, pancreas, liver, and multi-organ grafts. Responsibilities also include advanced techniques in organ preservation, including ex vivo organ perfusion.
The position emphasizes donor-focused surgical activity, with potential for limited but meaningful involvement in the care of transplant candidates and recipients. Depending on individual interests and programmatic needs, opportunities for participation in selected general surgery procedures and recipient care may be available. The surgeon will work closely with organ procurement organizations, recipient surgeons, transplant coordinators, and other surgical teams to ensure optimal outcomes across the transplant continuum.
The role includes active participation in the education of medical students, general surgery residents, and transplant surgery fellows. Faculty members are encouraged to contribute to curriculum development, trainee evaluation, simulation-based education, and mentorship.
The successful candidate will preferentially have an interest in academic medicine and scholarly activity, with opportunities for clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and innovation in organ procurement and preservation science.
The University of Virginia Health System offers significant infrastructure and a collaborative environment to support the candidates professional pursuits, including clinical care, research, education, quality improvement, simulation, and program development.
